I Can Make My Home a Haven

Music by Joan Sowards Lyrics Joan Sowards & Gwenn Davis

SCRIPT
(Sister with notebook, writing. Purse on floor by a stool.)
I've turned a new leaf;
Out with the old and in with the new.
Things here bring me grief
So I'm making a list of things I can do.

I can make my home a haven with a little bit of ingenuity.
I can make my home a haven with a thing called women's intinuity.

SPOKEN
Wait... Is that the word?
OK, then that is the first item on my list;
Dust off the ol' dictionary, and oh, (giggle) use it!

SUNG
There's no reason to procrastinate, There's so much to learn;
To budget and to cook.
Yes, when I cook, I burn.
I'll decorate my home so it reflects the real me.
I'll organize the closets
From junk I soon will be free.

I can make my home a haven with a little bit of ingenuity.
I can make my home a haven with a thing called women's intinuity.

SPOKEN
Oh, that word!

SUNG
I can be a happy homemaker, I'm starting today
To make my home a haven
There's no time for play.
I resolutely vow that I will give it my best,
I have my list to follow I'll put it to the test.

I can make my home a haven with a little bit of.

SPOKEN
(Stops writing.) My mother always told me that the number one rule of house keeping is to morning.
(groan) That should go make the bed first thing in the at the top of the list. (write)
Maybe this list thing isn't such a great idea after all.
I've never liked making my bed.

SUNG
I can make my home a haven but first I have to make my bed. (Picks up Purse)
Later, I'll make my home a haven, I think I'll go out shopping instead. Bye!
(waves, exits)
